ICON i40 Golf Cart Review

You may have seen a privately owned ICON model electric vehicle on the golf course. It can be quite eye catching. The design is both striking and memorable. What really separates this line of vehicles, however, is the fact that the entire lineup is as street ready as you can find and is offered at exceptional prices.

If you read our last review of the i20 series, you are going to love the new ICON i40 carts. There are three models that are maximum people movers you can move right from the dealer showroom directly to the streets in your neighborhood.

ICON i40 Standard Features

These sleek vehicles are fully loaded. Headlights, taillights, brake lights, turn signals are all standard and not extra-cost options. Other accessories that make street driving not only legal but safer to drive include a horn, a digital speedometer, seat belts, functional front and rear bumpers and side mirrors complete with turn signal indicators.

ICON i40 Power & Electric Motor

The engine holds up well for street driving with a 48-volt Toyota AC controller at 350 AMPs that offers 25 miles per hour and strong hill climbing abilities. Just like newer autos are planned for minimal maintenance and maximum driving enjoyment, there is not much the owner needs to do when the vehicle is ordered with an advanced lithium battery that can have an on-board charger added that knocks out 35-50 miles per charge.

Other great features that you will not find on the extra charge list include four-wheel hydraulic disc brakes, 10” aluminum wheels and a selection of eight standard colors. They all come with chassis fabricated from powder-coated steel.

What really makes the ICON i40 golf cart series attractive is the different configurations available. This lineup can move more people than the i20 with standard seating for four.

ICON i40F

The ICON i40F is still a four seater like the i40, except all the seats are facing forward. Definitely an advantage for those not looking to exclusively golf or those who simply want to cruise around the neighborhood.

ICON i40L

The rugged looking i40L is rugged for a reason. It is lifted to handle rougher terrain and provide a more stylish look. Just like with the i20, these three vehicles enhance on-the-road safety on any street where the speed limit is 35 miles per hour or less. Head out for shopping with plenty of room for your purchases, take a couple of friends out for a nice dinner or head over to a neighborhood event. Just like a traditional car, you can let other drivers see your intention with the included turn signals and brake lights at a price that compares very favorably to the most inexpensive compact car. Your savings might even tempt you to pick up the dinner check.

Best of all, while you are thoroughly enjoying the ride you are doing right by the environment with no emissions, no use of fossil fuels and a quiet, clean ride that costs about 50% less than most street-ready electric vehicles. This experience is all enhanced by the fact an ICON i40 is a lot easier to park than any compact or monster SUV.

Of course, you can always look at acquiring a traditional electric golf cart or gas golf cart specifically designed for golf course use and pay a great deal extra to make the vehicle legal for street use. That said, this vehicle lineup makes all that effort and extra money spent seem unnecessary. Whichever ICON i40 vehicle you choose, you can just jump in and hit the road.
