    Star EV Sirius Review

Star EV (owned by JH Global Services, Inc.) arrived on the scene in South Carolina in early 2000. In 2004, they made a bold entry into the golf cart and small electric vehicle market due to the expanding area of green technologies and the incredible growth of the Baby Boomer market turning into retirees living on or near golf courses. Overall, the market was ripe with opportunities for ecologically-friendly solutions. To build upon their reputation, Star EV has unveiled the Sirius line – which is an immersion into the luxury electric golf cart for personal and commercial use.

One of the prime attractions of the Sirius line is the inclusion of many features normally presented as buyer options at a price that mirrors the cost of a plain-jane beige golf cart (you know the kind). With a long list of standard features, the Star EV Sirius line of vehicles deliver a lot of extra accessories and features without an extra cost. For example, LED headlights offer both daytime running lights and high beams for night driving. Those LED headlights are linked up to the safety oriented self-cancelling turn signals. If you have an extra concern for flair and safety, then you will be happy to know there are LED turn signal indicators built into the side mirrors as well.

When we get to the seating area, it is nice to know that these seats are a step above your standard golf cart seat by providing more comfort than the average cart. In addition, the seats also include a nice adjustable back, providing an additional layer of personalized comfort. Storage is excellent, with a lockable, lighted glove box and an electric-operated trunk that includes a built in cooler for ice and beverages that can be drained after each use. Yes, you may want to re-read that last sentence – the front trunk can be used as a cooler! Additionally, the Sirius boasts a console with ambient dash lighting that creates a color display screen that shows a speedometer, the current gear, battery power and access to both 12-volt and USB charging outlets.

Driving is made easier thanks to rear drum brakes, both a low and high power setting at the flip of a switch, a race-inspired chassis with double wishbone suspension, tires mounted on custom rims and a 5.4 AC motor that takes hilly terrain in stride. This performance is due to the Sirius sports eight six-volt batteries that can drive this vehicle 60 miles on a single charge. While it claims to 60 miles on a charge, we highly recommend you do not push it to those limits. For more information, please read our informative article on batteries.

So, now what are the drawbacks of a fully stacked vehicle worth of features? Well, conventional wisdom indicates that the more accessories you have means more items that may need to be repaired in the future. That’s the same with any golf cart and product you buy. With that mind, make sure you are working with a golf cart dealer you trust and as an extra added precaution, check to see if they have the parts in stock to fix your unit – whether it is under warranty or not. Having a reputable dealer to work on your unit when trouble strikes makes all the difference – especially when the manufacturer is offering a 4 year warranty.

The design team for the Sirius line of golf carts wanted to provide an electric vehicle that had features comparable to an automobile and they have fully delivered. With all the included features, one would think the options list would be small, and it is. Buyers can select an optional custom color paint job, add a back-up camera (the color display is already compatible with that), a battery filling system and a scorecard holder. A real highlight for options is the ability to have any of these vehicles come as an LSV – which makes the Sirius completely street legal and capable of a top speed of 25 miles per hour.

The Sirius model can be ordered as a two-passenger, four-passenger unit 2+2, a 4 passenger unit with 4 forward facing seats, and a 4+2 (the +2 indicates it has a rear seat). In addition, any and all units can have a lift kit installed if you are wanting that look. Standard features are the same over the entire line. With Star EV maintaining a stable brand for many years, the many advantages and no-extra-cost features are going to draw considerable interest from buyers – whether they plan to use their vehicle on the golf course or as personal transportation. That wide appeal seems to validate the marketing slogan, “Get Sirius.”

I would NEVER recommend an icon i20
We have own an icon golf cart for a year and two months, we are on our third set of batteries. The company does not care. They told us they will just keep replacing the batteries until the warranty runs out and then we are on our own. Terrible customer service!!!

Poor product backed by poor customer service
Got one of these for my birthday. Less than two months and the thing stopped working. Will not drive forward or back and was poorly made from the start. I get that things happen but the two closest dealers are in two other states. I’m not driving hrs to get this thing fixed. People this thing was $13k I would assume that a reputable company would stand behind its product. I will figure this out one way or another but it wouldn’t be so difficult if I only went with a more established brand.

    ICON - Great Golf Cart
I picked up a new ICON i40L. I got the upgraded tires, upgraded batteries to AGM, floor mats, undercarriage blue running lights. I also got he speed increased to 30 MPH. All of this came at $6,000 less than equally equipped Club Car. Cart has disk brakes and all the features to get an auto license plate from Florida DMV.

I have put almost 4,000 miles on this beast. Its a fast, solid beast of a cart. I have had great service from ICON. That said, I have not had a single mechanical issue. Zero defects.

Unfortunately, the dealer I bought it from - Superior Karts in Naples Florida lost their license to sell ICON do to their poor relationship with ICON HQ in Tampa.

I have "sold at least ten other carts to folks who all stop to ask what kind of cart I have and where could I buy one. Every single person that bought one, ordered upgraded AG batteries. Why would anyone risk buying nickel batteries and have them boil over, spill battery acid on yourself and garage floor? Makes no sense. Order maintenance free AGM batteries (upgrade of about $1,000) and hopefully soon, ICON will upgrade the Toyota controller so the controller will accept lithium batteries.

With lithium and radial tires, this cart would be the fastest, strongest and best looking cart on the road - for $thousands less.

P.S. China is already the global leader in electric cars so don't be fooled by the China bashing that goes on by all the US dealers. Fake news. The carts are assembled in Tampa and now Texas and ICO is 100% an American company. This cart is a beast and is excellent quality.

New ICON Golf Cart Charging System Failed after Four Months
We bought a new ICON Golf Cart here in Myrtle Beach in June 2021 and in early October, the charging system started to fail and finally stopped charging. The green light came on after being plugged in overnight but the charge was not full. The local dealer indicated that a dashboard programing problem had been identified by Icon that caused the charge to stop before finished. This was not told to us when we bought this new cart. The local vendor picked up our cart and replaced the charging system under warranty. We hope this will fix it but the reviews here indicate multiple problems that we were not made aware of. Very disappointing due to the performance and looks of this cart when we bought it.

    DO NOT BUY ICON
Purchased a new Icon electric golf cart in July 2021. A month after purchase the cart started having problems. By the 7th hole I could not get the cart to stop. Put on the brake and it sped up. If I had been behind another cart I would have hit them. The dealership picked up the cart to find the problem. Could not get it to do the problem. Brought back and said nothing wrong. So I'm driving it on the street to see if corrected. Came to a stop sign but cart would not stop. Car turning saw I had a problem and let me through. If the car had not stopped I would have hit him. Again contacted the dealership. Basically told me I was lying and there is nothing wrong with the cart. Dealership would not take the cart back, return my money or honor the warranty. Sold cart and new owner having same problem. New owner contacted dealership and was told same thing that there is nothing wrong with the cart. Spoke to manufacturer rep and all we can do is take the cart to him, an hour away, at our expense and they would look at it. You would thing they would do all they could to correct a serious problem and make a happy customer. Customer service greatly lacking, dealership very rude, and basically so sorry too bad. DO NOT BUY AN ICON GOLF CART.

    A Bit of Advice
This isn't a good or bad review, this is some helpful knowledge with the ICON's, battery maintenance, and overall cart maintenance. Everyone has their idea of a good battery. The term you get what you pay for is true, but also you must tend to those precious babies or you will be buying new ones faster than you can think. Always charge your cart first, then check water. Only use distilled water. Make sure the cables are tight and free of corrosion. You also want to rinse the batteries off every now and then. Believe it or not, but the dirt reduces voltage. ICON carts are good carts. Sure you can get a dud cart in any brand. It's no secret that the carts are a Chinese product, but are assembled in the US. If you look at any other cart, parts will come from China. Nothing is 100% American. That being said, if you take care of your cart and your batteries, you will get a long life with both.

    Stay away
We bought this cart brand new. The battery never last more than 30 minutes yet the digital pad always read 95-100% battery. We changed out the pad 3 times and it still didn’t work. We returned it for a full refund. Will never buy Icon again.

We have had our Icon for two years now and it currently has 1700 miles on it. Not one single issue with it since purchase and still runs like a top, we love it.

    Terrible Customer Service
Unfortunately I purchased an ICIN EV. Within 3 months the seats began to fade. It took me over a year to get replacement seat covers. Rather than having nice smooth corners, I now have ‘wrinkled’ corners. This looks nothing like the original seat covers. After repeated requests to get this corrected, I requested that Roy Williams, owner of ICON EV, call me. I have emailing him twice and calling twice, he has NEVER returned my call. This is not surprising as I have repeatedly found his General Manager, Lana Batten, to be unhelpful, unconcerned and rude on the phone.
My advice, DO NOT PURCHASE AN ICON EV.

    cheap, not quality
when shopping for a cart I came across ICON, at first, ICON checked all the boxes, I was told it was made in America and seemed to drive fine, Then after my second year (2 years 3 months) my power seemed to be dropping rapidly after a charge, I called a reputable company who dosent sell carts, they just offer repairs, and was told the truth WITH PROOF, this cart wasnt made in America, It was made in communist china FACT, I got the cart with trojan batteries, the trojan batteries are the best on the market and almost everyone agrees but I was stumped as to how they could have went bad so quickly, in my past carts (club cars) the trojan batteries ALWYS lasted 4 or 5 years, in the ICON they only managed to last 2 years 3 months, the load test was weak on 4 of the batteries and low on the other 2, was told by tech thats the price you pay when you have a cart that drives so fast (28MPH) basically I just traded the poor con job in and bought a PILOT car, Pilot Car has a more responsible 25 MPH and as it was demonstrated to me there is a huge difference in 25mph and 28mph when it comes to performaance and longevity of batteries. Plus PILOT car is made proper with european sourced steel ...virgin steel whos alloy is much much better than chinese icons, On top of all this I found out that ICON is just a name, other brands have the same cart, Ziggy makes a cart thats identical to ICON, after some calls to Ziggy, they were honest and admitted they were built in china by LV Tong ....the same people that make icon, after a call to roy the owner of the name icon, he basicall told me where to go and how hard to pound if you catch my drift. I will tell everyone I know, dont fall for the cheap price, its a trap

    Great for the money, but...
As a golf cart it hits 90% of the marks. Here’s my peeves. Only 2 cup holders, most have 4; no place for golf balls. That’s it. For the $4,000 price difference, I can deal. Just added a dash tray. The last peeve, it doesn’t improve my game, but I arrive looking good.
