Battery-Operated “Golf Carts” Transport Passengers to Express Train

MUMBAI, INDIA – The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), formerly known as Victoria Terminus, is a railway station which launched a battery-operated cars on Monday, April 2nd. The cars resemble a lot like those of golf carts and it can accommodate six to eight passengers along with their baggage.

The six to eight-seater vehicle currently has two operational unit which would help and prioritize in transporting passengers with disabilities, women, and senior citizens. The ride will cost 40 INR per trip.

The CSMT has 10 platforms where 47 pairs of trains depart daily for long-distance travels. Platforms No. 2 and No. 4 is currently where the battery-operated look-a-like golf carts are available. Authorities of the railway station said that they will be the ones responsible for charging the vehicle from time to time.  

In an interview with SK Jain, Divisional Railway Manager (Mumbai), Central Railway, he said, “The operations will be overseen by a private contractor for a period of 5 years.” However, these vehicles is still on trails basis at CMST station.

For the next few days, similar look-a-like golf cart vehicles are going to be available in Kurla, LTT, and Dadar Stations.
