Cancer has been a life-threatening disease and almost impossible to cure that’s why people are called to unite with this event to celebrate cancer survivors and honor those who lost their battles.

In an interview with Connie Lesko, event organizer and an employee of the Retired Officers Corporation, she said “Plans are underway, some great people are involved, and it will be so much fun. The relay is an opportunity to honor those who’ve lost their battle with cancer and celebrate survivors, all while raising money for research. So wear your red, white and blue and come join the fun.”

Lesko has been reported to have a nephew suffering from colon cancer so together with Lesko and her nephew’s friends they created a team named #Hawkinsstrong to participate in the event.

Current existing teams for the said event are as follows: Aston Gardens Walkamolies, Chamber Champions, Sun City Center Emergency Squad, Team Thor and Greg Green for County Judge, Group 2.

A community development manager for the society’s southeast Hillsborough County region, Samantha Schneider, said “We also provide free programs and services to cancer patients and their families, including transportation to and from treatment and lodging during treatment.”
